"Sahmatah" playwrights Edward Mast (right) and Hanna Eady Sahmatah is based on interviews with palestinian refugees from the village of Sahmatah in the Upper Galilee region of Israel. Sahmatah was on of 418 Palestinian villages destroyed by Israeli forces in the war of 1948 - 1949. The interviews were gathered in 1995, and the play premiered in an English-language production by New Image Theater in Seattle in March of 1996. An Arabic translation of the script by Hanna eady was later co-produced in August 1998 on the site of the village itself. That production went on to tour throughout Israel/Palestine.
